Are you a Power Smoker?

(Video Script)

"Do you Power Smoke? Most smokers do. There's fewer and fewer places you can smoke these days. Not on a plane. Hardly ever in the office or plant. Less and less when you go out to eat or drink. So what do you do? You panic!

Faced with the reality of not being able to smoke for a few hours you panic. You try to top up your nicotine level.  So before work and during breaks or, anytime you are about to enter a restricted smoking area you smoke your cigarettes faster and one after another.

The problem is... power smoking doesn't work. Why? Because your body can't 'top‑up' or 'store' nicotine. Power smoking is a subconscious attempt to cope with restrictions at work, on airplanes, in theatres, etc. But smoking three or four cigarettes one after another doesn't help and it is more harmful than regular smoking. The overdose of carbon monoxide (the most harmful carcinogen in a cigarette) causes your blood pressure to go up and forces your heart to beat faster in an attempt to eliminate the overdose of carcinogens and chemicals.

How can you stop 'power smoking'? First: Don't panic. Ask yourself before you light up that

second or third cigarette. Do I really want another one? Your answer will be: NO,  Because now you know it won't help. And, the overdose of chemicals will make it even harder until the next time you can light up.

See? You are in control and you've just started the quitting process by cutting back. There's more tips on our site. So just keep exploring."
